Ignacio Fleta is widely regarded as one of the greatest luthiers of the 20th century, whose guitars have been favored by legendary players such as Andrés Segovia, John Williams, and Julian Bream.
The sound of this 1981 Ignacio Fleta is absolutely magical, powerful and rich with a deep body resonance that is almost cello-like.
A bit of history: A few dates to keep things simple and understand why Ignacio Fleta’s guitars are among the best in the world: Ignacio Fleta died in Barcelona on August 11th, 1977. The workshop remained open, and great guitars continued to be produced by his sons Gabriel (b. 21 December 1929) and Francisco (b. 22 July 1925, now retired). To this day, a lengthy wait-list of 20 years is still tended by Gabriel’s son, Gabriel Jr. and so the Fleta legacy lives on, now in its third generation. Video 1 is John Williams playing a similar guitar. Video 2 is Andrew York playing a similar guitar. Video 3 is me playing this particular 1981 Fleta, number 798. I did not use any sound editing. No reverb. No EQ Video 4 is Fareed Haque playing a similar Fleta, year 1981 This Fleta has a lot more power than most traditional guitars. The basses are deep. The voice separation is exceptional. Playability is perfect. |
