Comments Henrik Ballowitz started his guitar building journey at the age of 18 when he made an electrical guitar. As his interest for lutherie grew, his focus pivoted towards the Spanish guitar tradition. In 2017 he attended the EIGM, with teachers Master Luthier Stephen Hill and Graham Emes, in Granada, Spain. He frequently returns to Stephen’s workshop to absorb as much knowledge from the Master, and the community that surrounds his workshop, as possible.
Henrik’s formal education is as an organ builder. For six years he worked for the danish organ company, Frobenius, where he restored and constructed new traditional pipe organs, for churches in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries.
In the autumn of 2020 he traveled to La Heradurra. He made a batch of three instruments, and this is one of them. It is a traditional spanish guitar loosely inspired by the well known French luthier, Robert Bouchet. It might look like a flamenco guitar with the beautiful cypress back and sides, but it is constructed as a concert guitar and has a distinctive, but still warm and responsive Granada sound. The top is quarter sawn European spruce and the rosette is of course hand made with the traditional method.Video button 1 and 2 above shows a similar guitar with cocobolo back.
